Parts Identified Correctly – The First Time

Most HVAC equipment manufacturers have been around for quite some time. The build several different models for a variety of applications, and make several variations of each model. Every new year brings changes to each model and each variation. The reason for these changes vary from government requirements to gaining competitive advantage, but with each change comes a new bill of materials, and changes to the various parts and components used in each model. The more years a product has been manufactured and the more models and variation produced, the more complicated the task of properly identifying replacement parts.

It can be frustrating, when trying to order parts, you’re told by a parts tech that “that’s not enough information”. What can be even worse, you get a call hours later that more information is needed. The problem is, with the huge number of manufacturers, and even larger number of model numbers, we don’t always know right off what additional information may be necessary. Even with the numerous resources both online and in print, it can sometimes be difficult to ID the proper parts, especially for older equipment.

How You Can Help

All manufacturers put data plates on their equipment. This data plate will contain the model number, serial number, capacities, voltage, amps, engineering revisions, and other pertinent info. Also, each part will have identifying information such as manufacturer’s part number, OEM part number, etc. The more information we can get, the quicker and more reliably we can get you the correct part the first time. The benefit is it saves time, saves money, reduces stress, and maybe someday will even cure the common cold! (OK, maybe the common cold thing is a stretch). To put it in simplest terms, there is no such thing as too much information when getting a part identified.

McQuay ALS Chiller Gate Failure Cleanup Procedure

McQuay has issued an important Parts Bulletin concerning gate failure on a screw compressor. It’s possible that a gate failure may result in broken pieces gettinto into the suction line and possible the suction end of the evaporator on an McQuay ALS Chiller.
