Applied Comfort 16 Series PTAC

The 16 Series fits 37.5 x 16-inch sleeves for electric heat models and 41.5 x 16-inch sleeves for hydronic models. If you’re replacing AAF Series 16, Nelsonaire Series 16, or any of the other discontinued 16-inch lines listed below, this is the direct replacement. No sleeve modification in most cases.
Current production units run on R454B refrigerant. If you’re seeing R410A listed for this series somewhere else, that’s outdated. Call us at 800-866-1210 and we’ll confirm what’s current.
The Applied Comfort 16 Series PTAC was re-engineered for low noise operation. That matters in hotels, healthcare facilities, and multifamily buildings where occupant complaints are real. Here’s what you’re working with:
- Cooling: 9,000, 12,000, or 15,000 BTU/h
- Refrigerant: R454B (current production)
- Electric heat models: 16EE. Hydronic models with hot water and steam: 16WE
- Controls: electronic touchpad, switchable to wall thermostat or EMS
- Fresh air: automatic power damper, mechanical door, or no fresh air
- Voltage: 115V, 208V, 230/208V, or 277V depending on model

ALERT: The 16WE hydronic sleeve (ACC16WCSLEEVE) is wider than the standard electric sleeve (ACC16SLEEVE). Specifying the wrong sleeve on hydronic jobs is a common ordering error. Verify heat type before quoting sleeve accessories.

What sleeve size does the Applied Comfort 16 Series PTAC require?
Electric heat models (16EE) need a 37.5 x 16-inch sleeve. Hydronic models (16WE) need a 41.5 x 16-inch sleeve. Those two sleeves are not interchangeable. Check the heat type before ordering.
What refrigerant does the Applied Comfort 16 Series PTAC use?
R454B. Earlier versions used R410A, but current production has been R454B. If you see R410A listed for this series somewhere, that data is outdated. Call us at 800-866-1210 if you need to confirm what a specific unit shipped with.
Does the Applied Comfort 16 Series replace the AAF Series 16 and Nelsonaire Series 16?
Yes. The 16 Series replaces AAF Series 16, Nelsonaire Series 16, McQuay AAF ENR, McQuay PNES, Islandaire EZ 16, Simon-Aire SS16, Retroaire RC10, and AAF Enersver. Sleeve dimensions match in most cases, so no wall modification in most retrofit jobs. Retroaire and Simon-Aire are the exceptions worth double-checking.
What cooling capacities are available in the 16 Series?
9,000, 12,000, and 15,000 BTU/h. All three sizes are available in both electric heat (16EE) and hydronic (16WE) configurations.
Does the Applied Comfort 16 Series work with EMS systems?
Yes. The electronic touchpad controls on every 16 Series unit are switchable to a wall thermostat or an EMS. That covers most hotel and multifamily building management setups. It won’t work with a duct system, though. Applied Comfort is clear on that.
What is the warranty on the Applied Comfort 16 Series?
6 years total. Year 1 covers parts and labor. Years 2 through 6 cover compressor parts only. Parts ship free throughout the warranty period. You can add optional 6-year compressor labor coverage at the time of purchase.
